Varna Airport: The countdown has started

On 19th January 2012 started a test flight program for checking the new constructed runway and airfield lighting system at Varna Airport.
The large scale project of "Fraport Twin Star Airport Management" for the rehabilitation of the runway, in which the company invested nearly BGN40 million, was launched on 15 October last year.
The construction works are completed and the test flights started as scheduled.
Test flights are required to check and calibrate the runway lighting system and the air navigation aids, approach and landing facilities and to ascertain the operational serviceability of air navigation equipment at Varna airport runway

Strong Development of Fraport Twin Star Airports in the year 2011

The airports operated by Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD – Burgas and Varna airports - serviced in 2011 a total of 3 435 152 PAX and 30 478 flights, which is a 10 % growth in pax number in comparison with the previous year and 7,3% increase in flights. Cargo handled at FTSAM AD also increased by 5,25 %.
In 2011 for the first time the Russian market was the strongest market at both airports due to extremely high growth rates between 12 % and 35 %. In previous years the German customers were the strongest customer group

The contract for the construction of the New Passenger Terminal Areas at Burgas and Varna airports has been signed today (15 November 2011) in Varna between „Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD and Consortium “TIE- İÇTAŞ”.
On behalf of “Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD the Contract has been signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the company Mr. Dirk Schusdziara and the Chief Financial Officer Mr. Rossen Philipov. “Fraport Twin Star Airport Management” AD celebrates today with an official ceremony the start of the project for runway rehabilitation.
In the presence of hundreds of guests, CEO of the company Mr. Dirk Schusdziara and the Governor of Varna region Mr. Dancho Simeonov gave a symbolic start of the major infrastructure project. Varna and Great Preslav's Bishop Kiril blessed the event.
In the preparation and the implementation of the project Fraport invests nearly 40 million BGN. The preparatory works has already started, and from 08.30 a.m. on 15 October start the construction works on the airside

From 15 October Varna airport will be closed for runway rehabilitation
|

|
On 15 October this year starts the project for runway rehabilitation at Varna airport.
For the implementation of the works Varna airport will be closed from 15 October until the end of February 2012.
The project implementation is crucial for the long-term development of the airport and entire North-East Bulgarian region and will contribute to increasing the quality and applying the best international standards for aircraft handling.
During the works flights from and to Varna will be serviced by Burgas airport and for the passengers will be offered free bus transportation between both airports

Polish family Flis was officially welcomed today at Varna Airport. Their two-year old daughter Maya is the 1 millionth passenger of Varna airport this year. The family /Silvia and Michal from Polish town Lublin/ is in Bulgaria for the first time. The special guests of Varna airport have chosen Golden sands resort as their holiday destination.
The family which is expecting their second child thanked for the wonderful welcome.
The millionth passenger of Varna airport has landed at 12:55 with a flight of Polish airline LOT from Warsaw

The final commissioning of the new system for aviation fuel tank trucks which is an alternative of the existing kerosene pipeline is in process. Within the scope of the project new aggregate was installed and commissioned for transportation of fuel via the existing system. Replaced fire hydrants and upgraded foam system ensure reliable extinguishing system.
According to the requirements for environmental protection, with this project has been improved the entire drainage system and local capture spills of kerosene.
Investment in the infrastructure project is near 450 000 BGN.

The total number of arriving and departing passengers at Varna airport in the first six months of the year is 380 196. This is 2,3% growth compared to the same period last year.
The highest rise was registered in tourists from Russia, Finland, Norway, Iran.
The largest number of passengers was recorded on flights to and from Russia, Germany, Bulgaria, UK. The airport also recorded an increase in flights to Poland, Hungary and Israel.
Sofia, Moscow and Vienna emerged as the three most popular destinations in the period.
In 24 hours, currently most passengers are served on the first day of July – 15 000 (as the number of citizens of a small town)

Children's laughter and song filled the airports in Varna and Burgas, where this year the operator- Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, organized clown’s games, garnished with lots of goodies and gifts on the occasion of the International Children’s Day.
VIP guests at the airport were children from orphanages from both regions - “Roncalli”- Burgas and “St. Yoan Zlatoust” in Varna, and children of the airports’ employees.
Inspired by the breathtaking views of the aircraft - a logical background of the celebration, all children made drawings of the airport and put on paper their imagination about aviation

Varna airport is going to service the arriving passengers with new baggage conveyors in the coming summer season. The carousels are longer than the existing ones, and their overall length is increased to 87 meters. The new equipment has a control panel and a possibility to regulate speed within 20-30 m/min. The configuration of the baggage belts was also changed. These improvements will result in faster service for passengers. The two new carousels at Varna airport will come into operation before the start of the high season. Nearly 350 000 BGN are invested in the purchase and installation of new baggage belts at Varna airport.
